They say there are four types of learners:
✅ Visual – Learn best through images, diagrams, and seeing it live.
✅ Auditory – Absorb information through listening.
✅ Reading/Writing – Prefer reading/taking notes.
✅ Kinesthetic – Learn by doing.
I could never quite nail down which one I was until I noticed how my husband and I approached putting together furniture. He scrutinizes the pictures and takes them step by step
I glance at the directions, then dive in and try to “figure it out.” (This approach is why I’m a decent cook but a terrible baker.)
I live for examples, stories, and real-life experience, and I know many of you do, too. And while there are many, many people talking about how to market, most do it without addressing any of the nuance or providing helpful examples.
That’s why when I posted this carousel on IG this week about how to re-write something so that people care (and many of you said it was helpful), I knew I had to expand on it here…
In my example, I shared different ways to say the same holistic platitudes we all love, but in a way that shifts the focus from what people need to why they should care.
To show you what I mean, let’s continue breaking down the common wellness message: “You deserve rest,” and make it land for your audience.
Let’s assume for the sake of this example that you attract fast-moving, high-achieving clients who need rest more than anyone.
The key message you want to share: You deserve rest.
1️⃣First, we’re going to think about YOUR audience.
- Why aren’t they resting? Maybe it’s a demanding job, kids, travel schedule, etc.
- Why don’t they believe they deserve rest? Maybe it’s family dynamics, specific archetypes, or an underlying condition or belief.
- What happens if they don’t start resting? Maybe it will impact their health, job, relationships, or all three.
- What happens if they do? Maybe they’ll get more creative, build muscle better, or finally get a solid night of sleep.
2️⃣If you wanted to say you deserve rest in 12 different ways, here’s how you could do it:
Tie it to something relevant, like:
✅Why our ancestors rested more deeply during Winter.
✅ The best Valentine’s Day gift for your wife: more sleep (women need it!).
✅Our brains are processing more news and information than ever before – they need a break before they burnout.
Share from your personal expertise and authority, examples below:
✅ My clients who are well-rested are the ones who struggle least with infertility.
✅ In 20+ years, I’ve seen prescribed rest solve more stubborn weight loss issues than exercise alone.
✅ If there is one practice I teach to every. single. client.… it’s yoga nidra. Because nothing is more vital to health than rest.
Share from your personal experience, with things like:
✅ If there’s one thing I’ll never do again, it’s prioritize 5 am workouts over sleep.
✅ I used to work 12-hour days, and it completely wrecked my cycle.
✅ I started prioritizing my own rest, and here’s what happened…
Share for your ideal client’s headspace, like this:
✅ POV: You told yourself you’d take a weekend off, and now you have three sets of overlapping plans.
✅ When your body is addicted to busyness, rest feels unsafe.
✅ If the first thing on your mind when you wake up and the last thing on your mind before you fall asleep is your to-do list, you need to hear this…
ONUS: Share the why you should care, (straight from my IG post this week):
✅ A single night of sleep deprivation can increase anxiety levels by up to 30%.
✅ The less you sleep, the hungrier you are.
This way, your content doesn’t just tell people what they need, but rather shows them why it matters to them.
ps. This is the type of thing I help you with in Rooted Resources. Every month, I create prompts that support you in finding new, exciting, and aligned ways to speak to YOUR community.
