This weekend, I was doing one of the things I dread most in the world: running errands.
I had to drop off a package at UPS, and while I was out, I figured I’d swing by the Salvation Army across the street to donate a bunch of clothes. (Two errands, one stone, right? I think that’s how that saying goes😜)
But when I pulled into the drop-off lane and saw barricades blocking the entrance, I realized it was Sunday. And closed.
I thought, “No big deal, I’ll just come back another time,” and started heading home.
But about halfway there, I got this weird little urge to turn into a nearby business park. I had no reason to. I wasn’t looking for anything. I just…felt like I needed to drive back there.
Normally I’d brush it off, listen to the logical brain, and keep driving. But something in me said, “I have time. Let’s just see.”
So I turned in.
I noticed the Pub & Eatery was packed.
I noticed that t-ball looked to be in full swing.
And then I noticed something else.
At the very end of the road, I spotted an elementary school I didn’t even know existed.
And out front was…a big sign asking for clothing donations. 🤯
Exactly what I had been looking for. Just in a completely different place than I expected.

Now, look. I know there were much bigger, more inspiring stories in the news this week.
Like Amanda Nguyen – who set aside her dream of space travel to focus on advocacy for sexual assault survivors – only to fulfill that dream years later when she flew to space on April 14th along with Aisha Bowe – who ignored the advice of her high school counselor to pursue cosmetology and instead went on to become a rocket scientist.
Or Rory McIlroy – the Irish golfer who just completed his career Grand Slam at the Masters, 11 years after his last major win. He’s only the sixth person in history to achieve it, and he did it after years of public pressure, self-doubt, and heartbreak on that very course.
These stories are incredible. Truly.
But sometimes when I hear big, juicy, capital-I Inspirational stories like these, I catch myself thinking: wow, those are the kinds of people who get to live out big dreams. As if these things couldn’t happen to me.
But here’s the reminder I got that day: incredible things are happening all the time on a micro scale. And most of the time, we’re not even paying attention to them.
That’s why I’m sharing this tiny, almost laughably mundane story. Because even though it was just a detour through a business park, it reminded me that our intuition is always trying to guide us. Even when it doesn’t make logical sense.
And in business, you’re working with those two internal compasses every single day:
💖The body (or heart, or gut, or whatever resonates for you)
🧠The mind
You need both. But you also have to learn how to hear both. And trust when one is trying to take the wheel.
That’s the thing I keep coming back to this week.
You don’t need to be launching into space or winning a green jacket to know what alignment, clarity, or intuition feels like.
Sometimes it just looks like taking the turn.
Letting yourself follow the nudge even when your brain is saying, “waste of time, First name / my friend”
Maybe that’s where your next breakthrough is hiding.
And even if it isn’t, there’s still SO much value in knowing you can trust yourself.
So, as you move through this next week (especially if you’re juggling a lot) take a moment to check in: Have you gotten any weird nudges lately?
Because even the smallest nudges may lead you exactly where you’re meant to go.
Even if it’s just a donation bin at the back of a parking lot 😊
